Dovetail 3.0 feedback: Some functions are more hidden then before

Dovetail 3.0 has nice features to discover, but It feels like "intuitive navigation" is not really given. E.g. "Add data" was yesterday a visible button (one click), now its nested within a "add data menu"... Also all "data views" were visible at first sight (within a sidebar on the left). Now I need to open a menu (one click more). And also deactivate all filters to see a new entry that might not have already added a timestamp. Yesterday I could a new entry without a timestamp, even if the data view used this timestamp as filter. it was just there and I could continue editing it. Now I have to deactivate the timestamp filter to see an entry, which has not yet the timestamp attribute/note added... But when I deactivate the timestamp filter, the list of entries is suuuuuper long. Did you test with real users? :D

I literally cannot find a way to easily access the Tag Board without having to go through a note and or highlight/click existing tags. This should be a prominent menu item as its probably a fundamental part of the research workflow for many, especially when starting off a new project.

This new UI is definitely worse. Why can't I see the different menu options anymore? They now disappear when I am in a "Note"

Prioritising Non-UX Users, New Design Fails UX Professionals
D
Dennis Hipp
The recent redesign seems focused on product managers, engineers, and executives, rather than UX professionals who actively work with the tool. This shift has made core workflows more difficult and inefficient.
Switching between sections within a project now requires multiple clicks, where it previously took one. Accessing notifications also takes significantly longer. Hiding key navigation and features under the guise of "progressive disclosure" adds unnecessary friction and disrupts workflows.
As a UX tool, Dovetail should prioritise usability for its primary audience. This new design creates barriers instead of improving efficiency, making it harder for UX professionals to do their jobs effectively. An adaptive interface could serve different user groups without alienating the core audience.

Agree! The new UI is horrible. I want the old back!
