Sticky notes and annotations on highlight canvas
C
Corey McCue
It would be great to be able to add sticky notes, comments, or some other annotations to the highlight canvas. As I'm reading through the highlights and analyzing them, I need a quick way to log my thoughts and observations, next steps, etc.
I know you can add rectangles and text boxes but those don't really hit the mark for this

Post it and texts options - Canvas mode

Mariana Franco
Would be nice to be able to add post it and text on canvas mode. When I'm grouping and analysing highlights from interviews I want to be able to write down my thoughts and observations so I can generate better insights!

Thank you for posting, Mariana Franco! I have a few more questions for you:
- What specific features or functionalities would you like to see in the post-it and text options?
- How do you envision using the post-it and text features during your analysis process?
- Are there any specific tools or platforms you currently use for similar tasks that you find effective?

Pat Barlow Hey, Pat! Thank you for following up! Here are my thoughts on your questions:
- Specific features or functionalities:
For the post-it option, it would be helpful to have the ability to customize colors.
For text options, a rich text editor would be great, allowing different sizes, bold, italic, bullet points. This would make it easier to structure thoughts and highlight key points.
Drag-and-drop functionality to easily rearrange post-its and text on the canvas.
- How I envision using these features:
While analyzing highlights from interviews, I would use post-its to summarize individual insights or key points from the highlights, before generating an insight.
Text blocks would allow me to jot down overarching thoughts, potential hypotheses, or patterns I'm noticing as I group and analyze the data.
These features would help me visually organize information and document my thought process, making it easier to generate and communicate actionable insights.
- Other tools or platforms I use:
Currently, I use Miro for these types of analyses. However, I find it quite tiring to constantly transfer data back and forth between Dovetail and Miro, and inevitably, some information gets lost in the process.
It would be incredibly valuable to have everything centralized in a single tool, streamlining my workflow and ensuring no details are missed.

I'd also REALLY love to be able to insert prototype screens (image files) onto the canvas to put the feedback next to the part of the screen that is being referred to

Would like to bullet, bold, underline, and strike through text. I would also like to be able to add emojis.

Add comments to Canvas view

I need to comment, annotate, and discuss the "raw data" in canvas view with my research partners. It would be great to have a feature (e.g., like in Miro), where we can create "comments" that show the "author" and "date/time" it was created.

I second this. Not having that capability is one reason we are now trying to figure out how to move our canvas to Miro (or Figjam).

We would love arrows and lines to create relations between clusters as well!

Eline Koelman I second this, too. That is another reason we are now trying to figure out how to move our canvas to Miro (or Figjam).

Hey Misty! We currently have these features available on our notes and insights editors! Is this what you’re referring to?

Pat Barlow No, I'd like to be able to use these capabilities when adding text on a highlight board. It would be nice on a sticky but more so thinking of floating text.
