I love Dovetail and it works GREAT for something like user interviews or recordings where a transcript is created, but I work across mixed methods research and often have large Excel files from Qualtrics with qualitative survey data, or data from online forums like Recollective Boards. I'd love to be able to more seamlessly integrate these spreadsheet document types into Dovetail. As it stands, the current ability to add an Excel file via OneDrive isn't great and it doesn't show the file in a way that's useful for researchers. Having something like a chrome extension where tags could be used in the browser version of Excel itself, or even via the desktop app through an add-in would be insanely beneficial. I'm imagining something like Zotero which I used a lot in college and grad school where you can create a bibliography by collecting sources across websites, browsers, devices, applications, etc. A tagging feature where you can similarly collect insights across websites, browsers, devices, and applications (especially in those spreadsheet-style applications) would be so incredible and save so much time for us researchers!
Essentially, I'm looking for other qualitative research tools beyond Dovetail in order to find ways to code heavy amounts of qualitative data in forms OTHER than video transcripts or otherwise more easily digestible text that can be copied and pasted into notes. Any chance of making this happen?
Bonus: An update where researchers can more easily combine qualitative and quantitative data would be fantastic, too, but I imagine that's further down the line in development priorities! Or maybe you can include integrations from popular quant data tools such as R, Q Software, SPSS, etc.? Us mixed methods researchers are begging for a one stop shop!
