Better Handling for PDF Report Uploads

I upload a lot of 3rd party reports, like Gartner reports or even academic journal articles. Sometimes I just want to upload it and publish it as an insight to share, but often i prefer to have them as notes so i can highlight key insights and takeaways from the report or allow folks to comment on certain aspects of the PDF. I can't do both though cause its duplicative/time consuming/confusing for viewers.
Its especially troublesome for uploading my own legacy research reports as PDFs -> insights, as my viewers can't comment on specific areas of the PDF. I initially started uploading those reports as notes, but it got in the way of using feeds as I'd have to pull in unpublished insights into the feeds if i wanted to include these notes in there.

Improve highlights/insights from PDFs by providing a plain text copy of highlights

It's frustrating working with PDFs in Dovetail. I can highlight OCRed text and drop it into an insight, but I often need to edit the highlighted text. (I've attached a screenshot of a highlight from a PDF that's full of dashes for line breaks). There's no way for me to edit the text or copy just the text and paste it into the insight, so I have to take a screenshot of the highlight, upload that screenshot into an external tool like ChatGPT to have it produce a plain text version, and then bring that back into Dovetail. I'd like to be able to manipulate text from PDFs without having to leave Dovetail.

Great to hear your perspective, Ashley Churchill! I have a few more questions for you:
- Can you provide more details on how you envision the interaction between notes and insights when it comes to PDF uploads?
- What specific features would you like to see in the PDF commenting functionality?
- Can you elaborate on the issues you face when including notes in feeds and how you would like this process to be improved?

When i make a slide deck report in PPT- i usually @ different stakeholders in the sections that are relevant for them. I can't do that when uploading slide deck PDFs Or longer form written reports as an insight in dovetail. It leaves longer decks that are uploaded difficult for stakeholders to read and reference.
